What’s new from Coach Pri?

I’ve recently returned from the natural wonders of Yellowstone National Park (and if you’re not motivated by the geysers, wildlife or picturesque hikes, you must visit it for the delicious fresh trout 🐟 and huckleberry ice cream ha ha! 😉 )

GenAI Week Silicon Valley Recap: I recently attended GenAI Week in Silicon Valley, and here’s the quick scoop:

• The good: Some excellent talks on how AI is being operationalized in real-world use cases (finally, less hype!)

• The not-so-good: Several talks were salesy — founders and consulting partners talking about their products and problems they solve, not real thought leadership. Also - almost no swag, really? 😅 

• The best part: I got to meet some of my amazing clients in person and connect with fellow Columbia University alums I’d never met before!

Product Management News & Industry Trends

So much is happening in the world of tech that we need to be aware of as Product Leaders! Here are some key updates from this week that might impact you:

1. You’re Already an AI PM (Even If It’s Not in Your Title)

AI is no longer just for “AI Product Manager” roles. The reality? Every PM is now expected to work with AI—whether you’re building features with GenAI, personalizing user experiences, or optimizing workflows using AI tools. And if you’re not doing it now, you will be ASKED to do it soon 🤪 

AI is reshaping how we prioritize, prototype, and scale—and companies expect PMs to understand the AI product lifecycle, even if they’re not ML engineers.

What this means for you as a PM: You don’t need a technical AI degree or certificate, but you do need to show you can work with AI tools and apply them to customer problems.
Think: product-led growth with AI, smarter onboarding, or GenAI-powered support tools. Titles matter less than impact.

2. AI Is Flattening Teams and Rewriting Job Roles

With companies embracing AI tools, leaders are shifting toward leaner, cross-functional “full-stack builder” teams. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella recently emphasized that the hard part isn’t building AI—it’s transforming how people work.

Expect fewer layers between product, design, and engineering—and more pressure on PMs to be versatile, data-fluent, and outcome-driven.

What this means for you as a PM:
Expect fewer handoffs and more ownership. PMs who can flex between strategy, execution, and data analysis—and thrive in fast-paced, flatter teams—will be in demand.

3. Be Strategic About Early-Stage Startups

There’s growing debate about whether early-stage startups need PMs right away. Surge AI’s CEO Edwin Chen sparked a conversation, saying founders and engineers can lead product direction initially, using AI to iterate fast—before hiring PMs.

What this means for you as a PM: If you’re targeting startups, make sure they’re ready for a PM and have clear expectations. Otherwise, consider mid-stage startups or companies where PMs are core to execution.

4. PM Hiring: Stable, But Shifting Toward AI-Adjacent Roles

The product job market is stabilizing, but the hot spots are shifting - Growth PM, Platform PM, and AI-powered product roles are in demand. PMs with AI workflows and data fluency are rising to the top of candidate lists

What this means for you as a PM: PMs who can show impact in AI-adjacent domains—like personalization, platform scalability, or product-led growth—will have more opportunities.

Who’s hiring (job postings from my network)

PM hiring remains steady, and many of my clients are still getting inbound outreach from recruiters and hiring managers. That’s the good news.

But—it’s not easy out there. Candidate supply is still very high, which means employers are still super selective in who they hire, and interviews are still hard.

To land a role you love—one that truly aligns with your goals, values, and strengths—you need to:

• Curate your target roles and companies intentionally

• Practice interviews strategically (not just randomly!)

• Show up with a clear, confident story and career pitch
