What’s new from Coach Pri?

• This Wednesday, Feb 28th, I will be speaking at Santa Clara University on a topic close to my heart - women’s leadership!

• I’m just one step away from becoming an ICF-certified coach - I’ve been approved to take the ACC exam (it’s been a journey since August 2023)!

• On a personal note, I have been thinking about fitness and creativity, and how I can marry the two 😀 I’ve joined a dance group to refresh my Indian Classical Dance skills, and will be performing on March 17th!

Product Management News & Industry Trends

• Growth of AI infrastructure companies: There is a slow but steady rise of companies that build the infrastructure (e.g. Databricks, Archetype AI, Torrents.ai) to support AI-led growth. These companies are more likely to succeed in the long run since they are not dependent on a specific AI-based product launch going right, but they are serving a new, emerging & consistent need in the market.

• Augmented Reality: With AR is becoming more mainstream, it will be interesting to see how it will impact user research, UX design, product testing and many other areas. Read more.

PM Case Study Review of the Week

Moveworks - It was around 2016 when the CEO of Moveworks, Bhavin Shah, reached out to me to discuss my experience at ServiceNow, and in general in the Enterprise B2B SaaS space. I had recently left ServiceNow and was interested to hear more about this product/startup that he was working on. Over a cup of coffee, he carefully went through the checklist in his diary, asking great questions, and taking in all my answers. Consulting someone like me with 15+ years of experience in the right industry was part of his user research. I ended up doing some advising/consulting work for them on customer qualification in the Enterprise B2B SaaS space.

Fast-forward to February 2024, Moveworks has grown explosively, and is valued at $2B today! 

Here are some lessons I’ve learned from their journey, and watching them grow:
1. Often founders pick the most exciting problems to solve, but the users or market may not NEED those problems to be solved. Great products solve problems that are painful enough for customers to want to pay for and try out a new solution! Moveworks did not go after the “shiny new problem” - they went after banal but very REAL user problems.
2. Everyone jumps on the next trend in technology when it is already a trend, but if you are a founder and can think 10 years ahead of the curve, and start building using that technology now, that would be your key differentiator. You can read more about the Moveworks story.
