What’s new from Coach Pri?

There’s a lot happening around us - Meta laying off 3600 people, with a tainted label of “low performers” (another low-class behavior from Zuck - we all know layoffs are politics or economics based, and rarely performance based 🙄 ). There is also MLK (Martin Luther King Jr.) Day holiday coming up here in the U.S. on Monday Jan 21st, and the presidential inauguration is happening, which I am dreading.

Enough of the doom & gloom, here are some exciting things happening today and over the next few weeks that I am looking forward to:

Product Management News & Industry Trends

As I mentioned earlier at the top, we have a lot going on - both in tech and geopolitically.

• Enterprise SaaS is dead: Have you seen Satya Nadella’s video on “B2B SaaS is dead?” Well, what he really means is - so far - all B2B SaaS apps (products I’ve spent my life working on!) were apps businesses needed in order to interact with data on cloud-based servers. However now, AI agents can directly interact with the data on cloud-based servers, hence eliminating the concept or need for so called “applications”. So now you know why Marc Benioff is going so big on “Agentforce” lol 😂 

• Meta Layoffs: If you or someone you know is laid off from Meta, I’m happy to chat. Having been laid off multiple times, please know that you are not a “low performer” who was suddenly irrelevant. If you find yourself questioning your worth or your skills, let’s chat.

• Tiktok Ban - what’s next: If you were keen to apply to a Tiktok PM role and are now disappointed, think about which other companies/products you could apply your skills to, and use all that extra time on your hands to up-level your job search - now that there will be no Tiktok! 🤣 

• Conferences coming up: The first one coming up in the SF Bay Area is Product World - Feb 11 -13, Santa Clara. You can also checkout this list of conferences for 2025.

PM Career/Interview Tips of the Week

💥 Interview tips to be able to think creatively/divergently:
Do you struggle to think creatively or divergently in an interview setting? Can you come up with 8 user problems in 1 minute? Or can you come up with 5 different solution ideas in 2 minutes?

The good news - these skills are hard, and take time and practice - but can be built! And, we work on them together as a group during the PM Level-Up Program 😅 

Here are some techniques I share with clients:

1. Crazy 8s - Use this to think of 8 problems or 8 solutions in 8 minutes. This is a great place to start. Hint - don’t overthink! Just do it quick, let ideas flow 😁 

2. User journey - I’ve taught clients how to use user journey mapping to then help them come up with user problems or unmet needs - all in an interview setting!

You can refer to this article that shares some exercises for taking your left brain for a walk and practice your creative thinking skills - which are imperative for your PM interview success!
