Product Management Trends and Evolutions
Product Management for Ecosystems: One interesting trend I see emerging is that PMs will move from focusing on individual products to managing product ecosystems, with a growing emphasis on platform products and integrating with third-party ecosystems (e.g., APIs, partner products etc.). So if you have knowledge or experience in these areas - now’s the time to market it!
Using AI for Product Development: Which parts of the PDLC (Product Development Lifecycle)are you automating currently with AI? Is it your user research? Is is data gathering for decision making? Or something else? For some food for thought on this - checkout this “Product for Product Management” podcast hosted by Matt Greene and Moshe Mikanovsky.
Low code/No code (LCNC) Product Development - Contrary to the popular belief that you have to be very technical to succeed as a PM, the expansion of low/no code development and platforms means that more people can become PMs, but core PM skills such as data-informed decision making, big picture vision and strategy and cross-functional collaboration with effective communication will become key to your PM job search, interview and long term success on the job! Gartner projects that LCNC platforms will be used in >65% of app dev worldwise by the end of 2024.

PM Career/Interview Tips of the Week
💥 We are in week 8 of the PM Level-Up Group Program - and we have switched to a slightly different teaching/coaching model - which consists of group office hours on Tuesday evenings, and group mock interviews on Friday afternoons!
Here’s what we talked about in our group coaching session this week- Metrics Tradeoff Questions! There could be a few different types of questions within this category:
For a specific product - Metric X is up by 15% and Metric Y is down by 20%. What will you do as a PM?
How would you design an experiment to increase metric X at company Y, for Product A.
Should we launch feature X or feature Y first (based on success metrics, A/B testing etc.).
Here are my tips for answering these questions:Start with the mission, vision, clarify product stage and goals!
Understand the user groups (high level)
Determine or clarify north star metric
Think of some leading success metrics based on the product stage, and 1-2 guard-rail or counter metrics!
Extrapolate - if you’re given 2 metrics moving the opposite way - see what is the impact if you stretch it out?
Create a strong hypothesis, and show that you’re ready to test it out!
Consider experimentation - showing that you can design an experiment well and that you can make data-informed decisions is important!
And don’t forget to share your decision making process with the interviewer!
💥 What are your biggest challenges in answering Success Metrics Tradeoff questions? Reply back with the word “tradeoff” and I’ll see how I can help 😅
Whenever you’re ready, here are 2 ways I can help…
