Product Management News & Industry Trends

So much is happening in the world of tech that we need to be aware of as Product Leaders! Here are some key updates from this week that might impact you:

  1. The AI Action Summit in Paris (Feb 10–11, 2025): This first-ever global AI summit brought together world leaders from 100+ countries!

    Key Takeaways for Product Managers:

⚡ Innovation vs. Regulation: Europe wants fewer barriers to become an AI hub, and the U.S. pushes for de-regulation to accelerate progress in AI.

🌐 Democratizing AI: With India co-chairing, the summit emphasized AI accessibility for emerging markets, signaling new growth opportunities.

🌿 Green AI: The push for eco-conscious AI development is starting up—future regulations may tie sustainability metrics to AI funding and compliance.

If you’d like to catch-up - watch Sundar Pichai’s talk (Bonus - you can use these insights in your next PM interview 😉).

  2. 🔍 AI in Product Development & the PM role evolution – AI is accelerating product development & iteration, allowing PMs to ship faster. The role of PMs is shifting - from execution, or time spent on ‘data analysis’ to more strategy and ethical decision-making in AI-driven environments.

Here are some areas massive shifts are happening - Rapid prototyping, NLP based models doing ‘user data analysis’, AI driven DevOps tools for safer, more secure & faster releases, & hyper-personalization of products/product design based on user-needs and behaviors.

(We will be digging deep into AI PM-ing during our Week 9 of the PM Level-Up program, and I will share key insights here, so stay tuned! )

  3. 🏗 PM Organizational Shifts – More companies are moving to functional org structures inspired by Apple’s model—grouping PMs by expertise instead of fully cross-functional teams. Instead of placing PMs directly within cross-functional squads, they may now be grouped by domain expertise, e.g.

    • Growth PMs → Focus on user acquisition, retention, and monetization.

    • Platform PMs → Handle APIs, internal tools, and infrastructure.

    • AI/ML PMs → Oversee data-driven features and algorithmic products.

In this model, engineering, design, and data teams remain cross-functional, but PMs are centralized within their functional area of expertise.

Why? Due to the AI revolution, we need more specialized PMs - so this functional alignment makes more sense - it allows PMs to build expertise in a specific space, improve productivity & enables them to be more strategic, all things necessary to design, build & launch AI/ML products.

PM Career/Interview Tips of the Week

💡 Struggling to structure your Product Sense or Product Design interview answers? Use my own/proprietary 6W-1H Framework to think like a top-tier PM:

🧩 How to Structure Your Answer:

  1. Why? – Why build this? (Market trends, business alignment, user behaviors/expectations, company mission & goals)

  2. Who? – Who are the target users? (Personas, segmentation)

  3. What? – What problems do they face? (Brainstorm pain points - Divergence)

  4. Which? – Which problems should we solve? (Prioritization - Convergence)

  5. What? – What solutions could work? (Ideate product ideas - Divergence)

  6. Which? – Which solution should we actually build? (Prioritization - MVP selection)

  7. How? – How will we execute? (UX, trade-offs, engineering feasibility)

  8. Summarize your answer from top to bottom!

🚀 Pro Tip: Always start by aligning with the interviewer on the product’s goal or objective.

🎯 Want real examples? Consider joining our next cohort for the PM level-up program for live PM coaching sessions where we work on case studies as a group!  🚀
