• In-person retail is dying: I’m sure you’ve noticed - some of our favorite brands are closing more and more stores in 2024. This is the highest number of store closures since 2020 when the pandemic hit. So, who’s winning - Walmart marketplace/e-commerce, Costco and of course, Amazon.

  • Getting a role in e-commerce will be a good bet for your PM career, and “expanding to new markets” will be a skill you will need to stay relevant!

• Product Operations Roles still growing: As we see the industrialization of AI happening, Product Operations roles continue to grow.

  • If you are a Program Manager who wants to transition to a Product role, and you enjoy organizing things and working with other internal product managers, building & improving the “product development process”, then Product Ops is a great place to start!

  • If you are a Product Leader with interest in coaching, and people management, this can be another area to consider for career growth.

PM Career/Interview Tips of the Week

💥 Common Behavioral Interview Mistakes to avoid!
Time and time again, I see most clients make the same behavioral interview mistakes - so thought I would share them here so you all can learn from it:

1. Too much time spent talking about the context, not leaving enough time for the “actions” and “results” aspect

2. Focusing too much on the “doing” aspects of the PM job, and less on the “planning and thinking” aspects of the PM job. This impacts your leveling and seniority!

3. OWNING your accomplishments 100% - this has been a long journey of 10+ years for me to be able to proudly own my accomplishments, but I’m here to make sure it doesn’t take my clients that long ha ha 😉 . This is deeper than just using “I” language over “we” language. This shows up in your resume, and in every word you say in an interview!

   So - as you write your STAR (or my format - B-U-P-A-R-L 🤩 ) product success stories, and practice them, ask yourself - what is standing in the way of me fully owning this accomplishment? If you feel it in your heart and mind, yes, it will reflect in your interview answers and help you land the job faster!
